wikis

#16 & #17
Wikipedia is an informational tool to find useful information... or not. Many things on Wikipedia are very helpful, and others not. There is very good information but sometimes you have to dig for it. There seems to be a lot of information, just make sure that the information is true and not someones opinion. For instance, I looked up how to use a slim jim ( Yeah, I locked my keys in my car... grrrrrrr), there was really only one good one that gave correct and not personal information ,and it said to call a locksmith(yeah thats great!). You can find some interesting things and facts, I just wouldnt rely on all the information for a report or school project. I posted my blog on pbwiki favorite blogs.

More Geeky Stuff

things: 13, 14 & 15

Del.icio.us is a tool that allows you to tag and catogorize your bookmarks, you can make your bookmarks by looking at what others have tagged and add new ones that others have convienently found for you. It could be a wide variety of things or very specific, users and catogorize how they want.

Technorati allows you to search for blogs. Pretty much any way that you want. You can search by what is most popular, by using one of their links, or do your own search, you dont know what you'll find.... i searched for "monkeys on the moon" there was 413 results!!!! Crazy! Who woulda thought? Then you can filter it even more by giving it restrictions. Like videos of monkeys on the moon... even more crazy.... http://www.technorati.com/videos/youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DwY6insZjCfU (monkeys on the moon video!!!!)

Web 2.0 is a great resource, especially now since everyone wants to have access to things online. It gives people information they want, who might not have access to a library. It also gives libraries a chance to offer different products and services that they might not have had before.

O! What a Geek

online image generator (thing #10) Pretty fun i could sit there and play with it all day! library thing(thing #11) is cool too you can talk with people who like the same books as you, look at what others have to say and create your own library of books. Rollyo(thing #12) is neat too, you can ust it to search your favorite websites for the thing that you need. You can create your own or use one that someone else has made. Its great because you can use it to compare things on different websites without having to go back and forth to find the best price

Flickr

Flickr is an online photo management and sharing application. You can upload, edit, organize, share, make stuff, keep in touch with friends, and map pictures. There are many ways to upload you videos and pics, 5 in fact, to make it easy to edit and share! Have red eyes? You can fix it with the edit function. You can also crop, rotate, and use special effects to make your personal pics into professional ones. Organize your photos, put them into sets(a group of photos that all have a similar theme). You can share your pics with people who have the same intrests or invite friends and family to view them. You can make stamps, credit cards, slide shows, photo books and cubes by adding your personal touch to your photos. Keep in touch with family and friends by getting updates. What pictures have been taken in katmandu, well you can look and see. Click on the map to see where pics have been taken. Totally cool!! There is more, you can use the masher to put different pics together as one.

lifelong learning

Learning is something that we do every day, from the day we were born to the day that we... well you know. I can see every day that Malachai is learning new things. Some good... like walking without holding on to things, and some not so good... like unrolling and eating the toilet paper is fun. Malachai learns informally right now, like when you touch a button on the toy it makes noises. Later he will go to school and read from books and be taught by a teacher, formally. He always wants to learn and see how things work, he is a very active participant. He challenges himself by letting go, even though he will fall, he takes a chance. He shows great confidence because he trys and trys again. He loves to play with other kids, who also help him learn by showing him things(like his cousin, who likes to throw things at the TV). AND, most of all he likes to play!!!!!!!
